The Daring Ladies of Lowell by Kate Alcott is our book for this meeting. It is a 19th-century tale about a small group of “factory girls” who refuse to be silenced when one of their own is murdered. The author weaves information about the industrial revolution, feminism, and worker’s rights into this tale of a young woman seeking a better life away from family’s farm. In addition, there will be a short talk on the history of mills during the Industrial Age in Glastonbury and the people who worked there as well as historic photos. Reservations for this event are requested. The event is free. Please email martha.poole.hsg@gmail.com to make the reservation.
