Museum Store

Our store at the Museum on the Green contains a wide variety of gifts and books, including T-shirts and bags with the unique Glawackus, mugs, tea towels, postcards, and books highlighting various aspects of Glastonbury history. In fact, our own Iris Van Rynbach has written two books for sale at our store. These are picture books about The Smith Sisters and Early General Stores.

What is a Glawakus, you ask? In the winter of 1939, a fearsome beast roamed rural Glastonbury, attacking beloved pets and farm animals. Residents were alarmed and convinced that a dangerous wild animal was looming in town. Hartford newspapers were convinced that we were exaggerating the danger and wrote stories about the “wacky” Glastonbury locals and the Glawakus. Our exhibit even features the wooden footprints that fool some locals!
