Glastonbury and the Connecticut River: A Surprising Shipbuilding Powerhouse

Glastonbury Chorus joins with The Glastonbury Historical Society to present a special event.
The program will feature stories of Glastonbury’s colorful shipbuilding past
and of the effect it had on our community. The names of Hollister, Shipman and Welles may
sound familiar, but did you know they all played a part in this story? Did you know that we once
had a ship built here that was nicknamed The Mayflower of Seattle? That we had privateers that
attacked and captured enemy ships during the Revolutionary war? These are just a few of the
entertaining and fascinating stories to be told. The chorus will accent each story with songs of
the sea and nautical life. A special guest, Cliff Haslam, known to many for his performances at
The Griswold Inn with the Jovial Crew, will lead the audience in a sea chanty singalong.

door, from Glastonbury Chorus members or at the Historical Society The Museum on the Green
located at 1944 Main Street, Glastonbury CT. Adults $10, Seniors and children over five $8 and
children under five are free.
